Guidelines for effective observance of the year of Mercy in our diocese

1. Recite the prayer of Jubilee Year of Mercy and keep the emblem in every family / church.

2. Try to practice the corporal and spiritual works of mercy in a personal manner.

3. Say a special prayer for people involved in accidents or fire whenever you hear the siren of an ambulance or fire truck.

4. Make a Sign of the Cross and say an inspirational prayer for the departed souls whenever you pass around a cemetery or a funeral home.

5. Arrange parish/mission level pilgrimage to holy places.

6. Children, youth, adults - groups can organize visits to the nursing homes /prisons.

7. Make special efforts to study / pray the Gospel of St. Luke, the Gospel of Mercy, during this jubilee Year of Mercy (Quiz contests can be arranged).

8. Hold a full day adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on 3rd Saturday of Lent (Feb. 27, 2016) in all our churches / missions.

9. Observe Divine Mercy Sunday (April 3, 2016) with special prayers recognizing disabled children / adults; senior citizens.

10. Hold a full day of reading the Bible in all our churches / missions on September 3, 2016 (Saturday)

11. Hold a full day of recitation of holy rosary in all our churches / missions on October 8, 2016 (Saturday)

12. Adopt a mission station in one of our Mission Dioceses in North India by every Parish / Mission thereby become a part of ‘Save - a - Family’ scheme.

13. Faith formation classes / schools can support poor children to get supplies.

14. Conduct awareness classes and seminars at parish / forane level.

15. Study the lives of Saints who were apostles of Divine Mercy in their times.

16. Adopt a poor family in Kerala and provide monthly support to this family and thereby become a part of “Save –a –Family “scheme.

17. Make frequent reception of the Sacrament of Confession and pray especially for troubled families. Make preparations for 24 hours continuous programs during the Lent season and arrange confessions: “24 hours for Jesus”.

18. Recite Psalm 136 meditatively during the family prayer.

19. Pray for the end of terrorism and corruption.

20. Intercede for the help of Blessed Mary reciting the prayer “Salve Regina”.
